In the heart of the Middle East, amidst the turmoil of war and conflict, lay the resilient and unyielding spirit of Palestine. For years, its people had endured the harsh realities of war, their lives upended and their dreams shattered. And, since 7 October, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza has significantly deteriorated due to escalated hostilities. Until 3 November, none of the water pipes were working, and a pipe connecting the southern towns of Rafah and Khan Younis is leaking.

They go to any place they think might have water and wait for hours in long queues until they are able to find water that’s safe to drink and wash with. the Gaza Strip now grapples with catastrophic water, sanitation, and hygiene needs essential to the survival of its 2.3 million inhabitants, of whom half are children.

This scarcity of water raises fears of dehydration, kidney failure and other critical health consequences, particularly for already vulnerable people. Women, notably those pregnant or lactating, alongside children, face heightened risks due to the lack of adequate water and sanitation. In addition, the Global Institute for Water, Environment and Health and the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor described Gaza’s water as “undrinkable”, with 97 percent of its water unfit for consumption.
