“A man is not a believer who fills his stomach while his neighbor is hungry.”
Islam is a minority religion in Cambodia and is one of the Muslim minority countries in the archipelago. 90% of its 11.4 million people are Buddhist, 6% are Muslim, and the rest are Christian. However, Muslims are given full freedom to practice their religion including fasting during the month of Ramadan.
However, the Muslim minority will face some challenges or issues in living a religious life as a Muslim. Among the relatively big issues for the Muslim minority is halal nutrition. They face difficulties in obtaining halal food sources since the majority of the population in Cambodia is not Muslim.
Furthermore, Cambodia is a small and poor country in Asia, they only depend on agriculture for their livelihood. Therefore, the majority of Muslims are poor, so they have to work on their own to continue living. In addition, they also face a crisis in the supply of clean water because they still depend on pumped water because the tap water supply does not reach their villages.
To help ease the burden of the Muslim community in Cambodia to celebrate Ramadan, let us all be part of the contributors in handing out donations in the form of food baskets and iftar meals so that we can ease the burden and suffering experienced by those who are full of hardship and lack. Hopefully, your contribution and concern can help the Muslim minority families here obtain better and sufficient food needs during fasting.
