Overview
Yemen hold among the highest child’s malnutrition rate in the world as half of the children under five are stunted and over one million are acutely malnourished. Even though, the health expert recommends exclusive breastfeeding for a child up to 6 months of age, however with the current situation and high poverty rate in Yemen, only 16 percent of women exclusively breastfed for the first 6 months while 33 percent using a mixture of breastfeeding and a homemade solution of sugar and water to feed their babies.
Mortality rate of the infant is particularly high due to the combined impact of poor sanitation, disease outbreaks, infant formula donations, lack of access to healthcare and high rates of malnutrition.
