In the midst of Choung Puck, a resilient spirit named Sominara was born in 2014. Her arrival brought joy and dreams to her family, but these dreams were shattered when tragedy struck. Her father, Arof Ullah, lost his battle to a devastating illness in 2015. Soon after, her mother, Saynora Begum, also succumbed to the same disease. Sominara and her two siblings were left orphaned and alone in a world marked by uncertainty.

Sominara’s life took a heart-wrenching turn. She and her siblings found themselves under the care of their extended family, which includes their uncle, grandfather, and grandmother. While these loving relatives do their best to provide for the children, they are facing their own hardships. The family is trapped in the midst of an ongoing genocide with no stable income. In Myanmar, finding employment is an uphill battle, and they rely on the support of their community to meet their most basic needs.

For Sominara, education is her lifeline. She attends Choung Puck Middle School, currently in the second grade. Despite the challenges she faces, Sominara is determined to learn, grow, and break free from the cycle of poverty and uncertainty surrounding her.
